ENSō Driftwood Events

When the mind is free the body creates.

Use traditional brush and ink techniques inspired by Japanese calligraphy to create striking pieces of artwork at this monthly event.

This two hour workshop includes a brief meditation on the subject matter led by artist, writer and performer, David Nixon.

You will also take time to familiarise yourself with the materials before creating your own framed piece of art.

David has been creating these zen designs since a trip to Japan in 2014.

There are only six places per event so we urge you to book now before places go.

Enso will be taking place on the final Saturday of April, May and June.

Next event:

10 am – 12 pm April 27th at Healey Dell Arts Centre, Rochdale

£35/£25 (conc.)

Drawing Ensō is a disciplined-creative practice of Japanese ink painting, sumi-e. The tools and mechanics of drawing the ensō are the same as those used in traditional Japanese calligraphy: One uses an ink brush to apply ink to washi (a thin Japanese paper).

Healey Dell

The home for the Driftwood Workshop

Healey Dell is a beauty spot and nature reserve rich in industrial archaeology, 2 miles from Rochdale town centre on the way to Whitworth and Bacup. The River Spodden has carved its way through the woodlands down thousands of years, creating delightful scenery and spectacular waterfalls which once powered ancient corn, wool and cotton mills.

This incredible site is the setting for Healey Dell Crafts run by Denise Bradshaw. After meeting Denise at a Shed pop-up in City Tower, Manchester, we are now sharing some space on site.

Healey Dell will be the location for Driftwood Studio wood carving and fabrication we as monthly workshops. From April to November, we will be showcasing our brush and ink work in the Ensō workshop.

We are looking forward to bringing you more news about this collaboration as it continues
